It’s been a tough 3 months for Elsa’s Hockey but here’s an update on the positive outcome 🙂

Feef here.

So finally after nearly 3 months of being mothballed as a business, Elsa’s Hockey is back! This is an update of what has been happening, service updates, new additions and going forward in this uncertain time.

Firstly, you might not have noticed that the business has been almost at standstill for 3 months, not just because of issues with supply under the current situation but mainly as I was moving! This has been an issue for so many businesses in these uncertain times and I don’t believe we will ever see the ‘norm’ looking like it was before after all this is over.

Packing up to go was a huge job and something that was a massive undertaking as was not just packing, but a major declutter was needed as as I had years of stuff hoarded and I really wanted to start off the journey with a streamlined approach. Even the big board you will have seen in many of my FB live backgrounds will have a new home.

Once finally moved, I have had to take time to set all my work station up, which took some time but its nice not to have my work desk crammed into a tiny space like before. Also what you might not know but I was running everything without Broadband for over 6 months so you can imagine in this age things can be a struggle at times without it running which can only be an online business at this time. It took a while but now I am in a much better place.

Elsa’s Hockey has suffered badly through the Covid crisis but also this has been also due to factors such as, suppliers closing, suppliers slowing down supply and issues and delays with postal services. However I hold my hands up and while all these are a factor I have went into myself and didn’t take enough responsibility to make things work better for the business and I feel the only positive thing in this time I was able to do was to secure the Fischer Hockey partnership. Anyone who knows me knows I will always be harsh on myself when it comes to things as I know I can do better, but I have always fought back from every set back and now is no different.

The Fischer Hockey partnership starts this month and I am very excited to get started as the products are extremely good value especially their sticks, both Player and Goalie. If you would like a copy of the 2020/21 catalogue just drop me a message and I will send the digital copy over for you to look at.

Due to issues started above Elsa’s Hockey moving forward will have an improved communication on timings of items as well as now the postal services will be signed for, so tracking can be observed and tracking numbers issued once item is posted. Items have always been sent 1st class standard but now I feel it is important to change this in light of issues at my and also the Post Office end. Any refunds given for items not arriving will be actioned same day as either the Customer requests or I have communicated that I am unable to supply the said item or order. Also there will be a huge improvement in communication as now with being fully set up with multiple communication streams that can drop in with now having Broadband this will make things a lot easier. I am also taking on a Part Time worker to help with my load so I can concentrate and focus and have someone working with me to keep everyone happy with the service they receive from Elsa’s Hockey.

Before Lockdown started as I was really pushing Elsa’s Hockey forward at the time and it all came to a halt, or so I thought. Ill be honest I let myself get too much in to my head and looked at the problems rather than the solutions. I have worked through this and Ill be honest the move has made a huge difference to my focus and drive.

Hockey is not in the Ice Rinks right now but we can all still do things to keep Hockey alive and also keep connected to our Team Mates and Hockey Buddies until the day we can all be at the rink together.

I hope you can see that its all go and all positive here at the new Elsa’s Hockey HQ. From here I will be launching some new products and designs as well as working with Partners to get you the best in Hockey value.

I cannot thank Everyone who continues to support Elsa’s Hockey and myself, in business and in Friendship.

Heres to getting back to the rink soon, together and safely.

Much Love Feef x

New Dawn with Fischer Hockey.

Feef here.

I am proud to announce that I have been selected to be a Sales Representative for Fischer Hockey.

I actually remember Fischer coming into the Hockey World and realising that this would be something special as as Fischer is primarily a Ski Company, but the composites that make up modern skis are very technical and require a lot of technology and knowledge of flex and temperance. When Fischer originally came to the UK I was still a traditional Ice Hockey Shop and sold their products well, especially as they did have such great durability and a great range of curves with is something that has slowly dwindled from the UK market in the past 10 to 15 years.

Fischer is changing the ‘Traditional’ model of Hockey sales with a bold move to have Sales Representatives rather than shops. As Elsa’s Hockey, which I run is already a recognised Hockey business not but a shop in its own right I was over the moon that they choose to work with me.

After several Video chats I am excited to working with a very dynamic Company that is looking to grow in the UK but with a very Customer focused approach that wants to give the best value Hockey Sticks possible.

Did you know…..

Fischer produces between 700 000 and 1 000 000 sticks a year? Yet your thinking…. ‘How? Ive never heard of them?’ Well…

Fischer produces sticks for TWENTY different stick brands through its OEM Partner programme. So… You might already be using a Fischer stick without knowing it.

Fischer production is its own Factory. Based in the Ukraine it can make its own designs and changes how it wishes in house unlike most stick manufactures.

Fischer does a Custom Programme that is only a minimum of 3 sticks which can be fully customer from height, curve, flex, names and even Team Logos.

Fischer do Pro Foam Core Goal sticks which are on par with any ‘Big’ names yet are actually reasonably priced even for the most Ron Hextall headed Goalies.

Fischer also do amazing Visors, Gloves, Bags and the best value for money starter kit in the industry.

So, It will take about a week for items to go live on the site but if you wish to get a sneak peek of products or inquire then drop me a message or a mail and ill send you a catalogue and chat.

Exciting times! Also Im ordering my custom sticks this week too ha!

Stay safe,

Feef x

15 People you will find at most Ice Rinks and Arenas.

After years of bumming around rinks I have noticed some utterly obvious stereotypes that you see no matter what area of the UK you are in. Some of these characters I have seen on my World travels too.

I decided to share the Top 15 of these in this blog with you.

‘Rink Rat’ – Usually a Lad but can be a Lass. Teenage Kid that practically lives at the rink getting under all the Ice Staff’s feet. Goes on as many sessions as possible. Knows how to do the ‘Mohawk Roll’ or ‘Hockey Dance’ as it is also known. Often take up playing hockey but will suffer from ‘Stickittus’ which is the affliction that happens to Rink Rats when they have to skate with a stick in hand, all of a sudden they lose half of their skating ability and most of their coordination.

‘Disco Dweller’ – Always a Lad in this very late Teens to even 40s in some weird cases. Do a huge array of tricks and on ice dance moves (now know as Extreme Ice Skating). Yes, that Lad who looks like he is having a fit on his skates is trying to impress you. Well, not you but the 13 or 14 year girl with the neon leg warmers watching and thinking that it is all so cool. You will only recognise them off the Ice when they appear in the Local paper for being charged with under age sex in the back of their 53 reg Corsa with the badly fitting body kit.

‘The Lads’ – They are the Rinks Senior Ice Hockey Team(s). Normally a collection of 15 to 20 Lads full of the greatest Swag going (though every team will have a ‘Team Tool’) Girls Love them, Guys want to be them. Dress decent, cool hair, play off beards, Mo’s for Movember and you hardly see them carry a kit bag as their gear lives at the Rink. You may however see them with a net laundry bag in one hand and the latest smart phone in the other. Well groomed and Instagram ready. Will NEVER be seen wearing a Hockey Jersey without kit unless it’s the Annual Awards night/Shirt Raffle/Shirt Auction.

‘Team Tool’ – Every team has one. He’s normally not the best player but has a Job. Normally to be the one that either ends up on his head in games, sitting penalties that he didn’t commit or generally getting the mick ripped out of him by ‘The Lads’ and half of the time not realising they are doing it. But he is an important character in the Team so if anyone were to start on him who wasn’t one of his Team they’d have the whole Team to deal with.

‘Lad Wifey’ – In football they are known as WAGS but ‘Lad Wifey’ is normally a lovely sweet girl, generally pretty who comes along to the games and sits quiet and watches her man do his stuff. They are genuine and have some form of moral fibre not found in the array of ‘Puck Bunnies’ or ‘Turbo Sluts’ that often hang round. ‘Lad Wifey’ is often met by her Boo well away from the rink and is only interested as it is her Mans thing. She is always keeping an eye that the ‘Puck Bunnies’ and ‘Turbo Sluts’ don’t get a hold of his thing.

‘Puck Bunny’ – Girls or Women that basically want to get involved in a bit of ‘Off Ice Training’ with whatever one of the ‘The Lads’ they can. Possibly as couple a season. They tend to peak between the ages of 18 to 22 and after that they either settle down or up the ante and move on to being ‘Turbo Sluts’.

‘Turbo Slut’ – A ‘Puck Bunny’ who has crossed over into not only doing members of the team but whole teams. They have left morality behind and to be honest their behaviour is more sexually explicit than a hardcore Adult Movie. They brag about visiting the GUM clinic and how ‘Clean’ they are yet they are at it all the time. AVOID.

‘Mutant Female Fan’ – A Girl or Woman who doesn’t know if they want to kiss or eat their favourite Player. Normally those ‘Scary Women’ that you often see At games. Sometimes the odd one will end up being the nightmare drink fueled ‘Off Ice Session’ for one of ‘The Lads’ . This will scar ‘The Lad’ for life. Not so much the ‘Mutant Female Fan’ flashbacks, more the giant finger nail gouges she made in the poor lads back.

‘Super Fan’ AKA ‘Crazy Fan’ AKA ‘That fan’ – Normally a bloke who constantly wears hockey shirts anytime he can. Always pale from the lack of sun due to spending as much time as possible watching hockey or Wafui Twitch Streams. Will at some stage have weird facial hair. And weird hair. Shouts all during the game. Believes the Ref is always wrong. Hates all other teams and their players and gets his program signed most games. Will spend thousands a year following his team which usually mean that something has to be scrimped on. Normally soap.

‘Hockey Family’ – Parents and kids with overflowing enthusiasm for the game. Will look like a team stick of rock with all the jackets, shirts, t-shirts ect they will buy in support of the team. Kids will probably end up playing and any social life away from an Ice Rink will stop for the Parents. So will any spare cash.

‘Old Skool Zamboni Man’ – Older Man. Grumpy normally. Hates kids, women, men, noise, music and any form of work he doesn’t feel like doing. Often seen carrying a screwdriver round.

‘All the Gear, No idea Rec Player’ – Sadly you cant buy skill or ability but this Dude will have the latest top end sticks, skates and eveything else in between so he looks like a Pro as he falls over as he try to make a pass. Don’t get me wrong we all have to start somewhere, but this player always seems to tip up with an attitude of his gear matches his ability? So, when things go wrong you will often see this guy smash his £250 stick off the boards or launch it up the bench in frustration and will often blame others for his faults. The local shop owner rubs their hands with glee when they walk in knowing that the rent will be paid that month with the cash he will drop each time he comes to the store.

‘The Rec Manager’- Ever seen someone age real quickly due to stress? Want to? Take a picture of a Rec Manager on their first day and then a year later. Yep nothing will age you faster than Baby sitting 20-30 adult children that when it comes to Hockey seem to have lost the ability to organise their time and finances. Stress levels will increase the closer the Team is on a weekly basis to them saying ‘Its the same 9 guys who turn up week in week out. Where is everyone else?’ Constantly chasing someone who is always ‘Bringing that tenner next week’. Has thought about stabbing the guy who keeps asking why the Team doesn’t have more games. Nearly has a heart attack when someone suggests, ‘Why don’t we have our own Tournament?’

‘Evil Hockey Mum’, ‘Evil Hockey Dad’ – They will be the no1 one reason for the Junior Coach taking shit. They will make the sure he/she’s life will be hell unless their son/daughter gets what they think they deserve regardless of how good they are or if they are giving the effort they should to the team. Often never played the game but thinks they know more than a Coach thats given up years to learn the sport and gain qualifications.

‘Hockey Journalist’ – Often a Fan of the Rinks Team but trying to seem ‘more than a Fan’ by writing for their own blog or even the local paper. They Bull the team up to epic proportions and slate everyone and anything else, like ‘Super Fan’ but will get into the games free with their Press Pass. Again, often lacking soap. And any fashion sense. Will live on a diet of warm egg sandwiches and cold fish and chips. Will find people to bore before and after games. If they sport a beard often it will be used to store food so not to pay the rink for a snack. Will NEVER buy a pint for anyone. Extreme cases will also have a game sheet fetish.

So can you picture and put names to some of these characters? Are you one of these characters?

2019. Looking back before going forward.

So for those who don’t know, my name is Fiona Hennessy. I run Elsa’s Hockey on my own bar my underground few of 2 or 3 who help me when I struggle. Oh and my suppliers and support network which, lets be honest no matter what we do and regardless if we pay them or not, still help our everyday function.

I am STILL the smallest Ice Hockey Company in the World. When I mean Companies I mean Bauer, CCM ect. Im making products that they are. Not just T-shirts and stuff like lots of smaller Companies do. I create a product that people feedback that they feel helps them play the game they love.

In 2018 I had went through a major trauma that was entirely self inflicted and I felt like I didn’t want to have anything anymore. I also lost a huge financial sum with import issues that snowballed from a shipment coming damaged and I never got an insurance pay out from it as no part of the chain would take responsibility. It was a very very expensive lesson.

2019 started with me wanting to quit Elsa’s Hockey.

So when 2019 started I spent days in bed. I came up with the final design for the Chausski in bed. This is the truth. I worked from bed yet most of me wanted to crawl up into a ball and die.

Once I did leave the house I went back to hockey regularly after 7 years of just going once every 3 to 4 months. I joined what started out as pretty much a team full of strangers thanks to my good friend Iain being the only person I knew on the team introducing me.

Being back at Hockey helped my anxiety and depression but also my productivity.

I came up with over 40 designs and ideas this year even though only less than 10 saw the surface.

Things were not perfect. I screwed up with delivery times, had production issues, made errors in judgement not only on products but people too. It doesn’t always work. I also have sadly have not given 100% customer service at times and that is something important to me which I need to work on and achieve.

Things started to change after my birthday when I decided I wanted to just sit there and be alone to work out what I wanted not just from Elsa’s Hockey but also from my own life and theres also where I started to see where I could move forward and also add more positive things to my life.

2019 is ending actually the best year for Elsa’s Hockey. Personally I have struggled and I have had to fight my way back from the brink, but I have kept going back to this creation of mine and I suppose my subconscious wouldn’t let me quit.

Ok, so 2020 is going to be a huge year and I will be adding AND sacking folk from my life. Its ok to disconnect, if its not working, its not working and its time to step up with people who want to work with me that we can grow together.

I do need to say some thanks….

These are in no real order but you all amazing.

Ayr Lancers – Giving me chance just off Iain’s recommendation. You have stuck by me and as you have been told you will never know how much you helped me.

Kilmarnock Piranhas – Not been a Fish long but again been accepted and brought into the fold.

Scott H, Brian M, Scott C, Matt and Rab – Thank you to you and the Demons, Sharks, North Ayrshire, Summer Classic and Blackhawks for again letting me along to the Tournaments and games. Not only business but friendship wise you are brilliant.

Nicky, Adam and Jamie from 4000 and Counting for doing something special and letting me be involved in supporting it.

Paul and Brian from PowerPlay Hockey for reaching out and wanting to make hockey more fun. Hey look, we even seem to be on the same Team now ha!

Paul, Adam and David – You have became such close friends and I cannot thank you enough. You are all Saints.

Colin Grubb – You have again let me be involved in your school and letting Elsa’s Hockey be a part of that.

Ian and Pauline – You are amazing. Love You.

Humberto and Arron – Amazing souls and I wish you nothing but love and happiness.

Wor Dave & Animal – I don’t even know how to reciprocate anything that you helped me with this year or any year. 2020 will be a busy year for us all and I cannot wait for more adventures.

These are individual thank yous, but Elsa’s Hockey and also everything I do is nothing without the support of Family, Friends, Customers and Followers. Please know that I am thankful for you all and Im still blown away everyday that strangers want what I create.

Have an amazing New Year and lets all smash 2020.

Elsa’s Hockey

Elsa’s Footski. An idea, a lesson and a new beginning.

‘Hieee, G’day, And general introductions’

So I am Fiona, aka Feef, the Business Creator and owner of Elsa’s Hockey.

I could go through all my involvements past and present in the wonderful sport of Ice Hockey but as a start I would just like to share the story of how I came up with what is one of the most unique socks ever to be used in skate.

I hated my sore feet in my skates. Make it I just hate sore feet. I could look into my brothers world of mountaineering and see he had so many options to have less pain in his boots. Why not skaters???

At the time I stared this journey I wore Tblade skates (don’t judge, they were free), then onto Graf 707 Custom and still I had issues. I mean Graf 707 are putty skates compared to what I am wearing now so technically my potential issues are worse with my current skates.

I honestly believe that while skates have got lighter, more protective and more durable the problems with painful feet are still as bad. Its like we all play a tough sport so admitting to pain might be seen as a weakness but after every practice, shinny or game you still se someone in the dressing room peeling off their skates wincing in pain. That person could we be you.

I wanted change. No company was doing it so why not me? I mean at that time big companies didn’t even put their name on basic socks.

Skate socks didn’t exist when I started this journey. Thats until I decided it had to happen…..

Ok, dear reader, this is where you ask why me. Well, huge companies don’t spend RnR dollars much into socks as they want to sell other more profitable stuff. Me? I have time, someone I met who could tell me about fabrics and materials and in that time meant I spent studying where and why skates could case issues to the foot. If I didn’t skate as much as a pro then a pro would have these issues magnified??

So the Elsa’s Footski  was born.

I did a test withe the U18 U20 Czech National Team Camp. All happy.

First factory run. Two colours. Factory goes bust….

Second factory to get what I want we only work on one colour but I only sell the socks face to face but sell all over UK.

Next? I GAVE UP!!

Due to my weakness, Elsa’s Hockey was mothballed.

A few years on a whole load of lessons later…… I was finally at a point I though the time was right to raise it from the dead.

So, Elsa’s Hockey is back. Elsa’s Hockey is a huge part of me and to say I have unfinished business in my heart with this is an understatement.

Elsa’s Footski was a project I undertook because I knew others felt the same. The problems have stayed the same if not worse.

My mission is to educate people on the Footski on its vast benefits.

Please, subscribe, like, share and tell people that there is a really small company thats one day gonna shape an industry just because they took over years to believe they could.

Also, please, never give up on your dreams. Sometimes the journey can feel like your stuck on the inside lane of a roundabout, unable to get off at the turn off you want. However, keep going the way will get clear for you to get you on to your destination.

Heads up, Eyes bright, Your life is about putting up a good fight!

Keep digging in the corners,

Feef
